The Hanging of Usires Aedon[]

Usires Aedon is hung from the Execution Tree. His disciples are scourged from the Temple courtyard.

Aedon and Pelippa[]

When Usires Aedon is left to hang on the Execution Tree, a daughter of a mighty king of Nabban named Pelippa sees him and is filled with pity at his suffering. On the first night of his torture she comes to him with water which she gives to him by dipping her scarf in water, held in a rich golden bowl, and then holding it to his lips. She weeps for him and when he is able to speak they have the following exchange:

Pelippa: ‘Poor man, what have they done to you?’

Usires: ‘Nothing that poor Man is not born to.’

Pelippa: ‘But terrible enough that they kill you for words, without also they hang you heels-high for the sake of humiliation.’

Usires: ‘Daughter, it matters not which way I hang, top-first or the opposite – I am still looking full into the face of God my Father.’
